Thymalfasi (Zadaxin)
Immunotherapy
Description
Thymalfasin is a synthetic thymic peptide immunomodulator used in combination with chemotherapy and immunotherapy for microsatellite stable (MSS) colorectal cancer. This agent enhances immune system function and is particularly utilized in patients with proficient mismatch repair (pMMR) tumors who typically respond poorly to checkpoint inhibitors alone. Thymalfasin acts as an adjunctive immunotherapy to improve treatment outcomes in advanced and locally advanced rectal cancer settings.
Mechanism of Action
Thymalfasin works by stimulating T-lymphocyte maturation and enhancing the activity of natural killer cells, cytotoxic T-cells, and dendritic cells. The peptide binds to specific receptors on immune cells, promoting the release of cytokines and improving overall immune surveillance against cancer cells.
