Description

Alpelisib is a medication currently being studied in clinical trials for certain types of colorectal cancer (CRC). It is specifically being investigated for patients whose tumors have a PIK3CA mutation. PIK3CA mutations are changes in a gene that can affect how cancer cells grow and divide. Alpelisib is being tested in combination with capecitabine, a type of chemotherapy, to see if it can help slow down the growth or spread of the cancer. The goal of the trials is to find the best dose of alpelisib and to see how effective this combination is in patients with PIK3CA-mutated CRC. It is not yet approved for use in CRC.

Mechanism of Action

Side Effects

As alpelisib is still in clinical trials for CRC The full range of side effects is still being evaluated. Common side effects observed in trials for other cancers include hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) Rash Diarrhea Nausea Fatigue And decreased appetite.
