Description
Volrustomig is an anti-TIGIT monoclonal antibody designed to enhance immune system activity against cancer cells. This immunotherapy agent targets the TIGIT pathway to restore T-cell function and improve anti-tumor immune responses. In colorectal cancer, it is being evaluated particularly in microsatellite stable (MSS) tumors, which typically show limited response to conventional checkpoint inhibitors.
Mechanism of Action
Volrustomig binds to TIGIT (T-cell immunoreceptor with Ig and ITIM domains), an immune checkpoint protein expressed on T-cells and natural killer cells. By blocking TIGIT, the drug prevents inhibitory signaling that normally dampens immune responses, thereby allowing enhanced T-cell activation and improved tumor cell killing. This mechanism aims to overcome immune suppression in the tumor microenvironment.
