Description

Sym004 is a dual anti-EGFR monoclonal antibody combination consisting of two distinct antibodies that target different epitopes on the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). This targeted therapy has been evaluated in metastatic colorectal cancer patients, including those with EGFR-expressing tumors. The dual-antibody approach is designed to provide more comprehensive EGFR blockade compared to single-agent EGFR inhibitors like cetuximab or panitumumab.

Mechanism of Action

Sym004 works by simultaneously binding to two different sites on the EGFR protein through its two component antibodies, preventing EGFR activation and downstream signaling pathways that promote cancer cell growth and survival. This dual targeting approach aims to overcome resistance mechanisms that can limit the effectiveness of single EGFR-targeting antibodies and may provide enhanced tumor growth inhibition.
