Perifosine (** Generic name only (no approved brand names as it was not commercially approved) **)

Other Medications

Description

Perifosine has been investigated in clinical trials for its potential to inhibit Akt signaling and angiogenesis, with some studies suggesting it may have activity against colorectal cancer; however, it is not currently approved by the FDA or widely used in clinical practice for this indication. It was typically studied in combination with other agents such as capecitabine or cetuximab.

Mechanism of Action

Perifosine is a small molecule that acts as an inhibitor of Akt, a serine/threonine kinase involved in cell survival and proliferation pathways; it also has anti-angiogenic properties by inhibiting endothelial cell migration and tube formation.

Side Effects

Neutropenia; anemia; thrombocytopenia; nausea; vomiting; diarrhea; fatigue; rash; hyperglycemia
