EU EMA Approved ES Funded by SNS other indication 1 Clinical Trials

Description

Paricalcitol is primarily used for the treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism and renal osteodystrophy associated with chronic kidney disease, not as a direct therapy for colorectal cancer. Its role in oncology is related to its potential anti-inflammatory effects that may indirectly benefit patients undergoing chemotherapy.

Mechanism of Action

Paricalcitol is a synthetic vitamin D analog that acts by binding to the vitamin D receptor (VDR), leading to increased calcium absorption and bone mineralization; it also has anti-inflammatory and immune-modulating effects.

Side Effects

Hypercalcemia; hyperparathyroidism suppression; renal impairment; bone pain

Not all side effects are listed. Side effects vary by individual. Always consult your oncologist.
