Description
NSAIDs are used in colorectal cancer as a chemopreventive agent to decrease the risk of adenomatous polyps and colorectal cancer recurrence; they have shown efficacy in reducing the incidence of new polyps and preventing cancer progression, particularly celecoxib which selectively inhibits COX-2.
Mechanism of Action
NSAIDs inhibit cyclooxygenase enzymes, including COX-1 and COX-2, which are involved in prostaglandin synthesis; this reduces inflammation and pain.
