Description

Moviprep is a polyethylene glycol (PEG)-based bowel preparation solution used for colon cleansing prior to colonoscopy procedures in colorectal cancer screening, surveillance, and diagnostic evaluation. This low-volume, split-dose bowel preparation contains PEG 3350, sodium sulfate, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, sodium ascorbate, and ascorbic acid to effectively clear the bowel of fecal matter. Moviprep is specifically formulated to improve polyp detection rates during colonoscopic examination, which is crucial for colorectal cancer prevention and early detection.

Mechanism of Action

Moviprep works through osmotic activity where the polyethylene glycol component acts as an osmotically balanced electrolyte solution that is not absorbed by the intestinal tract. The PEG 3350 draws water into the bowel lumen while the electrolyte components maintain fluid and electrolyte balance, resulting in rapid bowel evacuation and cleansing of the colon for optimal visualization during endoscopic procedures.
