Lederfolin (** Lederfolin (generic: leucovorin calcium/folinic acid) **)

Other Medications

Description

Lederfolin is used in combination with fluoropyrimidine agents such as 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) or capecitabine for the treatment of colorectal cancer. It improves the therapeutic index by reducing toxicity and enhancing antitumor activity, particularly when used in adjuvant settings or as part of first-line therapy.

Mechanism of Action

Lederfolin acts as a folate analog that enhances the efficacy of fluoropyrimidine-based chemotherapy by providing an alternative substrate for thymidylate synthase, thereby increasing DNA synthesis and repair in rapidly dividing cells.
