US FDA Approved Oral 2 Clinical Trials

Description

GoLYTELY is a polyethylene glycol-based osmotic laxative solution used as a bowel preparation agent prior to colonoscopy procedures in colorectal cancer patients. This electrolyte lavage solution is essential for achieving adequate colon cleansing to ensure optimal visualization during diagnostic colonoscopies, surveillance procedures, and pre-surgical evaluations in CRC management. The medication contains polyethylene glycol 3350 combined with sodium sulfate, sodium bicarbonate, sodium chloride, and potassium chloride to maintain electrolyte balance during the cleansing process.

Mechanism of Action

GoLYTELY works through osmotic action, where the polyethylene glycol component draws water into the intestinal lumen, creating a large volume of fluid that mechanically cleanses the colon. The balanced electrolyte composition prevents significant fluid and electrolyte shifts during the bowel preparation process, maintaining physiological homeostasis while promoting complete evacuation of colonic contents.
