Description

Galinpepimut-s is an experimental cancer vaccine currently being studied in clinical trials. It is designed to help the body's immune system recognize and attack cancer cells. In colorectal cancer trials, it is being tested in combination with pembrolizumab (an immunotherapy drug) in patients whose cancer has spread (metastatic) and has not responded to at least two prior treatments. The goal of the trials is to see if this combination is safe and effective in shrinking tumors or slowing cancer growth. It is important to note that galinpepimut-s is not yet approved for treating colorectal cancer or any other cancer.

Mechanism of Action

Galinpepimut-s is a type of vaccine that uses peptides (small pieces of protein) derived from the Wilms tumor 1 (WT1) protein. WT1 is found in many types of cancer cells, including some colorectal cancers. The vaccine aims to stimulate the patient's immune system, specifically T cells, to recognize and target cancer cells that express WT1. In trials, it is given in combination with pembrolizumab, which is an immunotherapy that blocks a protein (PD-1) that can help cancer cells hide from the immune system. The combination aims to boost the immune response against the cancer.

Side Effects

Galinpepimut-s is currently being studied in Phase 1 trials. Therefore The full range of potential side effects is still being evaluated. Side effects observed in early trials might include reactions at the injection site (like pain Redness Or swelling) Flu-like symptoms (like fever Chills Muscle aches) And fatigue. Since it is given with pembrolizumab Side effects associated with pembrolizumab (like rash Diarrhea Cough And potential effects on organs like the lungs Liver Or kidneys) may also occur. The specific side effects and their frequency are still being determined in ongoing clinical trials.

Not all side effects are listed. Side effects vary by individual. Always consult your oncologist.
