Description

CDDP-75 is a chemotherapy drug used in a specific procedure called HIPEC (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy). HIPEC is a treatment option for certain cancers that have spread to the lining of the abdominal cavity (peritoneal carcinomatosis), including colorectal cancer that has spread this way. It involves surgery to remove visible tumors (cytoreductive surgery) followed by the delivery of heated chemotherapy directly into the abdominal cavity. CDDP-75 is one of the chemotherapy drugs that can be used during the HIPEC procedure. The goal is to reach and kill cancer cells that may remain after surgery, even microscopic ones, by delivering a high concentration of chemotherapy directly to the area. This approach aims to improve outcomes for patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis compared to standard systemic chemotherapy or surgery alone.

Mechanism of Action

CDDP-75 is administered during HIPEC, a procedure where chemotherapy is delivered directly into the abdominal cavity after cytoreductive surgery. The chemotherapy solution is heated and circulated within the cavity for a specific period (e.g., 90 minutes). The heat enhances the drug's effectiveness by improving its absorption into cancer cells and potentially causing direct damage to cell membranes, leading to cell death (apoptosis). This localized delivery aims to achieve higher drug concentrations at the site of the cancer compared to systemic administration, potentially increasing effectiveness while minimizing systemic side effects.
