IL-15 receptor complex

Description

Alt-803 is a super-agonist interleukin-15 (IL-15) complex that functions as an immunotherapy agent. In colorectal cancer treatment, it is being used in combination with cancer vaccines, particularly those targeting carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA)-expressing tumors. The medication works to enhance immune system activation and tumor recognition in patients with CEA-positive colorectal cancers.

Mechanism of Action

Alt-803 binds to and activates the IL-15 receptor complex on immune cells, particularly natural killer (NK) cells and CD8+ T cells. This activation leads to enhanced proliferation, survival, and cytotoxic function of these immune effector cells against cancer cells. The super-agonist properties provide more potent and sustained immune stimulation compared to native IL-15.
