Ad-p53 (** Gendicine (rAd-p53) - approved in China; Advexin (INGN 201) - investigational in other countries **)
Other Medications
Description
Gendicine (rAd-p53) is approved in China for the treatment of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma but has been investigated for colorectal cancer. It works by delivering the wild-type p53 gene to tumor cells, which can induce apoptosis in cells that retain functional p53 pathways.
Mechanism of Action
rAd-p53 is a replication-competent adenovirus that expresses the p53 tumor suppressor gene, leading to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in cancer cells with functional p53 pathways.
