About Sevoflurane

Sevoflurane is a halogenated inhalational anesthetic agent used during surgical procedures for colorectal cancer patients. This volatile anesthetic provides general anesthesia during tumor resection surgeries and other colorectal cancer-related procedures. It belongs to the class of fluorinated ether anesthetics and is administered via inhalation through specialized anesthesia equipment. Research is examining whether the choice of volatile anesthetics like sevoflurane versus intravenous anesthetics may influence perioperative outcomes and postoperative pain management in cancer surgery.

Category Other Medications
Brand Name Ultane, Sevorane
Mechanism Sevoflurane produces general anesthesia by enhancing inhibitory neurotransmission through gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptors and glycine receptors while simultaneously blocking excitatory sodium and calcium channels in the central nervous system. This dual mechanism results in dose-dependent depression of neuronal activity, leading to unconsciousness, amnesia, and reduced autonomic reflexes. The agent is rapidly absorbed through the lungs and quickly eliminated through pulmonary ventilation due to its low blood-gas solubility coefficient.

Medications: Propofol Sevoflurane
This study investigates the influence of type of anesthesia on survival and recurrence rate in patients receiving colon cancer surgery. The participants will be allocated to either the TIVA group and the inhalation group.

Start: May 2023
End: May 2026
INTERVENTIONAL
Medications: Propofol Sevoflurane
This trial evaluates how inhalational anesthesia (drawn in through the lungs) and total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) (through a needle in a vein in the arm) change the body's ability to recover from surgery or whether they impact the immune system i...

Medications: Lidocaine Propofol Sevoflurane
VAPOR-C is a randomised study of the impact of IV versus inhaled anaesthesia (propofol versus sevoflurane) and lidocaine versus no lidocaine on duration of disease free survival inpatients with either colorectal or non small cell lung cancer.

NCT04239794 Not Applicable Completed 468 patients
Start: Feb 2020
End: Jan 2024
INTERVENTIONAL
Medications: Propofol Sevoflurane
The investigators designed a multi-center prospective randomized controlled trial to study the influence of the type of anesthesia on postoperative pain after laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery. Half of the participants will be anesthetized with ...
