Tinzapari (Innohep)

Supportive Care · Approved since 2000

US FDA Approved Subcutaneous 2 Clinical Trials
Antithrombin III Factor Xa Factor IIa

Description

Tinzaparin is a low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) anticoagulant used for venous thromboembolism prophylaxis in colorectal cancer patients. It serves as supportive care to prevent blood clots in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer and those undergoing surgical resection. This medication addresses the increased thrombotic risk associated with cancer and cancer treatments, particularly in the perioperative period.

Mechanism of Action

Tinzaparin works by binding to antithrombin III, enhancing its ability to inactivate coagulation factors Xa and IIa (thrombin). This mechanism prevents the formation of fibrin clots by interrupting the coagulation cascade at multiple points, with preferential inhibition of factor Xa over thrombin.
