Description
Sasanlimab is a monoclonal antibody immunotherapy agent that targets the PD-1 (programmed death-1) receptor on T cells. This drug has been evaluated in colorectal cancer patients, particularly those with microsatellite stable (MSS) tumors, which typically show limited response to standard checkpoint inhibitors. Sasanlimab works by blocking the PD-1/PD-L1 pathway to enhance the immune system's ability to recognize and attack cancer cells.
Mechanism of Action
Sasanlimab binds to the PD-1 receptor on activated T cells, preventing the interaction between PD-1 and its ligands PD-L1 and PD-L2. This blockade removes the inhibitory signals that normally suppress T cell activation, allowing immune cells to maintain their anti-tumor activity. By preventing this immune checkpoint pathway, sasanlimab helps restore the body's natural immune response against colorectal cancer cells.
