Description

Lazertinib (also known as ABN401) is an investigational drug currently being studied in clinical trials for certain types of colorectal cancer. It is being tested in patients whose tumors have specific changes (mutations or amplification) in the MET gene. MET is a protein that can help cancer cells grow and spread. Lazertinib is being investigated to see if it can stop or slow the growth of these cancers. The trials are in Phase 2, which means researchers are evaluating how well the drug works and its side effects in a larger group of patients. Lazertinib is being studied alone and in combination with other cancer drugs like Vabametkib, Amivantamab, Carboplatin, and Pemetrexed.

Mechanism of Action

Lazertinib is a targeted therapy. It works by targeting the MET protein. In some cancers, the MET gene is altered (mutated or amplified), leading to too much MET protein activity. This excess activity can promote tumor growth and resistance to other treatments. Lazertinib is designed to inhibit the activity of the MET protein, potentially blocking the signals that tell the cancer cells to grow and divide. The specific way Lazertinib interacts with the MET protein is being further studied.

Side Effects

Common side effects observed in early trials for other conditions or in trials combining Lazertinib with other drugs may include fatigue Nausea Diarrhea Decreased appetite Constipation Vomiting And abdominal pain.
