Description

Interleukin-2 is primarily used for the treatment of metastatic renal cell carcinoma and melanoma. It has not been approved by the FDA for use in colorectal cancer (CCR) and its role in CCR remains investigational; there are no established clinical guidelines or standard dosing regimens for this indication.

Mechanism of Action

Interleukin-2 (IL-2) is a cytokine that stimulates the growth, proliferation, and differentiation of T lymphocytes; it also enhances natural killer cell activity.

Side Effects

Hypotension; fever; chills; nausea; vomiting; anorexia; weight loss; fatigue; headache; insomnia; tachycardia; hyperventilation; fluid retention; pulmonary edema; pleural effusion; pericardial effusion; cardiac arrhythmias; myocarditis; heart failure; renal insufficiency; hepatic dysfunction; hyperglycemia; neutropenia; thrombocytopenia.
